Borussia Dortmund have made clear their desire to extend Chelsea loanee Aaron Anselmino’s stay at the German club beyond the end of the season.
Anselmino joined Chelsea from Boca Juniors for £15millon in the summer of 2024, spending six months back on loan at the Argentine club before his loan was cut short last season.
The 20-year-old did not make any league appearances last season, but made a brief cameo appearance in the Club World Cup and a pre-season friendly with Bayer Leverkusen before he was sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund.
The highly-rated defender endured a tough start to life in Germany, with a muscular injury after his debut ruling him out of action for almost two months.
But Anselmino has now forced his way back into the Dortmund starting lineup and scored his first goal for the club in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Leverkusen.

The Argentine’s loan deal has no option to buy clause, but Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl hinted that the club are looking to open talks with Chelsea to explore making the deal permanent.
‘I will have to pick up the phone in the next few days and will certainly call them,’ Kehl said after their victory.

‘We hope that Aaron will stay on, of course. We have a very good connection with Chelsea.’
Dortmund coach Kovac was also full of praise for Anselmino, telling Sky: ‘He fights with crusader spirit. When things get tight, there’s no nonsense with him. He breaks through. And that’s something you need at this level.
‘You need defenders who love defending. The boy does that excellently. I love players like that, who do their job with dedication and passion.’

Chelsea and Dortmund have done plenty of business over recent windows, with Carney Chukwuemeka sold to the Bundesliga club over the summer after a loan spell last season.
While Anselmino did not make an appearance for Chelsea after his loan spell with Boca was cut short, Enzo Maresca was keen to talk up the defender’s future potential.
‘He’s another talent, another good player,’the Italian said last season.

‘Now the most important thing is that he arrives here and he adapts himself, he starts to find a house, settling in the right way.
‘Then we need to give him time, because when you come from the other part of the world, you need to adapt, you need to see a new world, a new culture.
‘If he’s here it’s because we think he’s a good player and he can help us.
‘But for sure he’s very young and he’s coming from Argentina, completely different culture, different football, different level. So he needs time for that.’
