The adorable moment a cat and puppy met for the first time has melted hearts across the internet, leaving TikTok users hailing them as “soulmates.”

While cats and dogs aren’t necessarily known for their ability to get along harmoniously (to put it lightly), one duo clearly didn’t get the memo. TikTok user Holly (@holllifer) shared a clip of the moment she introduced her cat to her new puppy, and there wasn’t even a hint of animosity between them.

The video shows the black puppy, named Gordon Ramsay, with his arms wrapped around the 7-month-old kitten, as though offering an immediate hug. The cat certainly didn’t seem to mind this show of affection, and the duo lay together adorably.

The heartwarming video of the “two babies meeting for the first time” has delighted the internet. Since the clip was shared on TikTok on November 5, it has amassed over 92,400 views and more than 23,300 likes at the time of writing.

Newsweek has contacted @holllifer via TikTok for comment. We could not verify the details of the video.

Their initial introduction couldn’t have gone better, as @holllifer wrote on TikTok that they will undoubtedly be “best friends forever.”

It’s often said that first impressions last a lifetime, and that certainly applies to cats and dogs. The significance of early introductions cannot be understated, and it’s largely recommended to take the process slow and steady. Both animals will need time to adjust and learn to accept their new companion, so they shouldn’t be rushed.

Some owners would be best advised to try desensitizing their pets prior to any face-to-face introductions. The Best Friends Animal Society suggests putting the pets on either side of a baby gate or a door and allowing them to view and smell one another from a distance. They should also have all their necessary items (litter trays, food, toys) in the room with them and be rewarded for positive behavior.

The aim of taking introductions slowly is to encourage them to essentially lose interest in one another before they finally meet in the same room. Owners should monitor the body language of both animals throughout and allow them more space if they show any signs of stress.

Fortunately, Gordon Ramsay’s introduction into the fold has gone smoothly. He and cat already appear to have become inseparable besties from the beginning.

Internet users can’t cope with their unlikely friendship, as many TikTok users took to the comments to praise their undeniable bond.

One comment reads: “what do you mean first time? They are clearly soulmates.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “Aww they look so cute together.”

Another person replied: “puppy is the goodest boy.”

While one commenter added: “This deserves to be a children’s book.”
