Zoe’s in danger (Picture: BBC/Jack Barns/Kieron McCarron)
To say Zoe Slater’s (Michelle Ryan) homecoming in EastEnders has been a bit tumultuous would be an understatement of such epic proportions, perhaps akin to saying the sun is ‘a bit hot’.
Enormous secrets? Check. Violent confrontations with shady figures from her past? Check. Re-igniting a decades-long feud with the customary catfight? Check. Family strife? Check. Uncomfortable fling? Check.
Trapped in a life-or-death housefire? Not yet, but dabbers at the ready! Because in a fortnights time, we’ll be able to tick that one off the list, too!
Zoe finds herself lodging with the the Beale/Branning collective of Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa), Peter (Thomas Law), Oscar (Pierre Moullier) and Cindy (Michelle Collins) as she struggles to remain at home and cope with the constant trauma her return has brought about.

If avoiding drama is what our Zo’ is looking to do, though, she might’ve picked a quieter gaff to crash in. In a different postcode, perhaps?
She’s immediately thrust into drama between monster-in-law, Cindy and Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), who go head to head regarding the christening ofbaby Jimmy.
It gets even more heated when Oscar returns home with Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness), who’s still deeply suspected to be a member of the Ford crime family.
Oscar’s been wrapped around mysterious Jasmine’s little finger since day one. She’s kept the roguish Branning boy firmly on his toes since she first showed up, and even after she admitted to throwing Cindy down the stairs at the Albert, he tried his hardest to stick by her, despite his family being convinced that she’s involved with the terrifying Ford clan.

Oscar’s family waste no time in laying into him, deeply troubled by his dedication to remain in a relationship with the girl who injured Cindy (and is potentially an incredibly dangerous gangster), leading Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) to ring the police while a terrified Cindy flees.
Back at the Vic, Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) finds a surprising ally in her efforts to help Zoe get to the bottom of her stalker problem, though an incredibly shocking discovery stops her in her tracks. Still reeling, Kat is snapped back into focus when she realises that No. 25 is ablaze, and Zoe is trapped inside.

Oscar, meanwhile, fails in his mission to crack Jasmine’s tough veneer and get her to open up to him. Despondent, hurting and unable to foresee a way forward with her continued resistance to letting him in, Oscar breaks up with her.

He has little time to wallow in self-pity, though, as when he realises that his home is on fire, heroic Oscar braves the flames as he rushes into the burning building to save Zoe’s life.
As the shocked residents of Albert Square look on, there’s one with a vested interest in the outcome, as Max Branning (Jake Wood) returns to the Square.
