WWE Superstar Santos Escobar came to terms on a new contract with the company in early October. The contract renewal occurred shortly after his previous WWE deal had technically expired. The quick re-signing came as a surprise to many backstage within WWE.

It was widely reported that WWE decided to reconsider the terms after the star voiced creative concerns over his role in the promotion. WWE management is believed to have addressed these concerns and subsequently made him a "sizeably larger offer" than previous overtures. Later in October, the celebrated star was reported to be backstage at a Monday Night Raw taping.

Despite these promising developments, Escobar has not yet returned to WWE television programming. He was last seen in the ring during a WWE house show held in Mexico in July. His continued absence from TV has led to speculation about his imminent return to the active roster.

Escobar used his social media account to send a brief message about his current status on 11/21. The message indicated that he is patiently awaiting the company’s plans for his on-screen return.

He tweeted: “waiting, patiently,”.

The 41-year-old former NXT Cruiserweight Champion has been heavily missed by WWE fans on television. His previous main roster run had been criticized by some for underutilizing his considerable talent and experience.

Escobar has over two decades of experience and previously headlined for top organizations like AAA and CMLL. His last televised match was a multi-man tag team victory at the AAA x WWE Worlds Collide event back in June.

The renewal of his contract is now believed to involve a creative reset for his persona. Internal reports suggest that Escobar might soon begin a heel singles comeback. The change would likely mean ditching the Legado Del Fantasma faction, which remains active on the SmackDown brand.

Escobar is rumored to be moving to the Raw brand for a fresh start. His return to television is expected soon as WWE builds toward the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event in January 2026. This time, his focus is likely to be on using his technical wrestling and subtle character work to create complex psychological stories.
