By Ricardo SandovalShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe Dallas Mavericks are among the worst teams in the league.
Prior to the season, they were viewed as a team that could make some noise and compete for an NBA title. However, through 16 games, that has far been the case. The Mavericks have been a dumpster fire, sitting at 4-12 are among the bottom in many statistical categories, including points per game (27th), three-point percentage (29th), opponents' points in the paint (26th), and opponents' total rebounds per game (30th).

Dallas has been a train wreck, and Anthony Davis’ health issues only add salt to the wound for a franchise still reeling from trading Luka Doncic for him. Nine months later, that deal continues to haunt the Mavericks in more ways than one.
...The fact that Davis has not been able to stay healthy, and with the recent firing of Nico Harrison, has put Davis' future in Dallas in question.
ESPN NBA insider Tim Bontemps says that league sources believe that the Chicago Bulls could be a potential trade destination for the 10-time All-Star.
“The Bulls could go in a few directions over the next several months, including adding to the current roster. That has led some sources to speculate whether Chicago, with over $80 million in expiring money, could be a suitor for Dallas' Anthony Davis and bring the Windy City native home. ‘I could see it,’ a West executive, who recently saw Chicago play, said. ‘[Josh] Giddey has worked well with Vucevic, but he could use a roll man to throw it up to.’”

The Chicago native is well on his way to Springfield, and there is a chance the Bulls could make a move for him. A 10-time All-Star, five-time All-NBA honoree, five-time All-Defensive Teamer and the second-best player on the Los Angeles Lakers' 2020 championship team, Davis has the accolades to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer whenever he does hang up his sneakers. In the meantime, could he stay healthy enough with his hometown team to be worth acquiring?
Davis' time in Dallas may be winding down, and with the Bulls off to a solid start, they could make this swing to establish themselves in the weak Eastern Conference.
