Over the weekend, the host of The Game Awards Geoff Keighley shared a What3Words code (regal.inspiring.thickness.) that directed fans to a spot in the Californian desert. Turns out a giant statue featuring demonic beasties emerging from a portal had been set-up. The mysterious artwork even lights up at night.
AdvertisementAt first fans believed it was a tease for a Diablo 4 expansion but that was shut down by reliable leaker Jason Schreier. “This statue is not teasing the Diablo 4 expansion. (I don’t currently plan on reporting what it is, sorry, but it’s a good one),” he wrote on the ResetEra forum.
Sony Santa Monica’s Cory Barlog has also reportedly confirmed that the statue is nothing to do with God Of War.

It left fans stumped about what the monument is actually teasing. “Genuinely have no idea what this is for. First immediate thoughts were either Diablo or God Of War, but both were quickly debunked. It’s an impressive statue though. Seems like a lot of work was put into it,” wrote one ResetEra user. “I would have 100 per cent said it’s Dragon Age were it not for the series being dead,” added another. “Watch it be a new IP all together,” said a third.
Some fans are speculating it’s hinting at something from Elden Ring creators FromSoftware, an expansion for Doom: The Dark Ages or previously announced game Lords Of The Fallen 2. Others are thinking a little more outside the box with Animal Crossing, Grand Theft Auto 6 and SpongeBob SquarePants all suggested.

While nothing has been confirmed, the fact the statue was first unveiled by Keighley suggests the mysterious project will probably be revealed at The Game Awards 2025, which take place December 11.
Announced last month, the nominees for Game Of The Year are Hollow Knight: Silksong, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Donkey Kong Bananza, Hades 2, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. However Silksong creators Team Cherry think their game is “too infuriating” to win, with their money on Expedition 33 to take home the trophy.
In other news, The Witcher boss Michał Nowakowski has confirmed The Witcher 4 will kickstart a new trilogy that will be released much sooner than expected.
