Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has been without another coaching gig since departing Baton Rouge, though that could change with a recent opening.

The college football landscape has been filled with coaching moves throughout different conferences, with the rumor mill running amok.

According to Pete Nakos of On3, Orgeron is a name that has come up in the Tulane coaching search, a G5 school that recently lost its coach to the Florida Gators, and the former LSU coach "wants" the position.

The Tulane Green Wave head coach position has become one of the more interesting openings in college football after Jon Sumrall left for Florida.

Tulane is in the American Conference Championship game against North Texas. Sumrall will coach Tulane during the game, and if the team wins, it will be in the College Football Playoffs.

Tulane athletic director David Harris outlined what the team is looking for in its next head coach and how he views the job on a national scale.

"We believe our success has risen to a level where it is getting national attention, and we believe that national attention is going to help us identify the next football coach for the Tulane Green Wave. That process has already begun," Harris said to the media after the announcement of Sumrall's job, per Sports Illustrated's Doug Joubert.

"While we don't have an exact timeline on how long the search will take, we will be looking to move as quickly as we possibly can to find our next head coach.

"Those who have head coaching experience will probably have a leg up, but ultimately, when you're looking at the big picture, we're going to keep our options open.

"We want to build the foundation of a program bigger than any one individual. We want to do the work that, no matter what happens, as we go forward we feel like we have the pieces in place to have a championship caliber program. We believe we have an elite job."

Orgeron is one of many who are vying for the job, though he has National Championship experience that will likely put him in the driver's seat.

He took over LSU amid turmoil after they fired Les Miles, and he steered the ship back into steady waters, recruiting quality players and helping get the team's reputation back to appropriate levels for a program of that stature.
