In an interview with "The Pat McAfee Show" this week, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin suggested there was no "ultimatum" from the school on a potential decision of whether to leave for two massive SEC schools.
"Yeah, that's absolutely not true," Kiffin said amid rumors of Florida and LSU's interest in the head coach. "There's been no ultimatum, anything like that at all. And so, I don't know where that came from, like a lot of stuff that comes out there. Like I said, man, we're having a blast. I love it here."
Just two days later, Kiffin is set to meet with Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter on Friday, Nov. 21.

Before he takes that meeting, though, a new report emerged suggesting Kiffin could possibly hire a national title-winning coach if he were to leave Ole Miss for LSU. "If/when Lane Kiffin is hired as LSU’s head coach, LSU is open to former Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron being part of Kiffin’s staff," Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported.

Orgeron has not coached since the end of the 2021 season when he led the team to a 6-6 record, but didn't coach the bowl game. He had a 51-20 overall record in Baton Rouge and led the Tigers to a national title in 2019 with the likes of Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson. The team struggled after their departure, going 11-11 in two seasons before the Tigers moved on from Orgeron for Brian Kelly.
During an interview late last month, Orgeron admitted he'd consider a position on Kiffin's staff in Baton Rouge.
“I’d consider it,” Orgeron said Oct. 29 on "Unsportsmanlike." “I love LSU. I’ve still got my home in Baton Rouge. When I coached with Coach Miles, [I was] the defensive line coach. I love the Tigers and I’m getting back to coaching, for sure, I’d consider it. No doubt.”
Kiffin has not announced a final decision as the College Football Playoff looms for the Rebels.
