Previous Page Next PageIf your partner or your parents ever complain that you are spending too long in bed, you can always claim you are in a strict training regime to snatch the crown from the ‘world’s laziest man’.
He was declared the winner after 240 people took ‘bed rotting’ to a new level as they tried to win the ‘lazy competition’ in the middle of a shopping mall.
Competitors were motionless for hours in a ‘lie flat’ contest in Batou, Inner Mongolia, in China.
Footage shows the contestants strewn across mattresses as they tried to outlast each other, with many wearing nappies.
Everyone was given a mattress to lie on and they were allowed to turn over, use their mobile phones, read books and order takeaways.

They were strictly prohibited from sitting up, leaving the mattress and going to the toilet.
Many brought their own blankets, power banks and food so they could stay as long as possible without tapping out.
This is not the competition’s first rodeo, it was the third edition of the event and was organised by a home-furnishings brand.
The organisers said that there was no fixed end time for the contest and it would continue until the last three winners were determined.
What is bed rotting?
‘Bed rotting’ is a TikTok self-care trend that sees followers stay in bed for as long as a full day or entire weekend.
Some people claim bed rotting brings with it physical and mental health benefits, while others warn that it could cause negative effects.
Supporters say it can encourage someone to get a crucial catch up on sleep and valuable time for rest.
Sceptics argue that it stops people getting vital physical activity, with exercise being crucial for improving mental health.
Lying in bed for too long can also cause deconditioning, when your body reduces muscle strength and negatively impacts mental health.
