Padres $187 Million Ace Projected To Sign Monster Free Agent Deal With Cubs

The San Diego Padres are likely going to lose a few key players in free agency this winter, but no loss will be as big as the loss of Dylan Cease. Cease is projected to sign a massive $187 million deal, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic, which is likely too rich for the Padres to retain him.

There are bound to be a lot of suitors for Cease this winter. He's one of the best pitchers on the market, and almost every contending team in the league is looking for pitching.

FanSided's Chris Landers recently predicted Cease would ditch the Padres and sign a massive deal with the Chicago Cubs this offseason.

"There's been chatter around Cease and the Cubs from pretty much the moment he balled out at Wrigley Field in Game 2 of the Wild Card series between San Diego and Chicago," Landers wrote. "It's not hard to see why: Jed Hoyer needs at least one starter this winter, and Cease has the best swing-and-miss stuff on the market."

Cease is going to be one of the biggest names on the market this winter, which will likely lead to one of the biggest contracts of the offseason. The Cubs have the money to sign Cease to a massive deal. They also have a hole in their rotation that would make them desperate enough to make the move.

Cease is likely going to be one of the most talked-about names of the offseason. His free agency sweepstakes could change the outlook of the National League. If the Cubs land him, they'll be in a good spot with plan B for potential life without Kyle Tucker.
