Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey’s ‘passionate’ love scene between their characters was apparently cut from Wicked: For Good.

Ariana, 32, and Jonathan, 37, lead John M Chu’s blockbuster film, which came to cinemas last week.

The film sees the singer play Good Witch Glinda, while the Bridgerton actor stars opposite her as her love interest, Prince Fiyero.

However, in the film, Fiyero’s heart is divided as he has a deeper connection with Glinda’s best friend, turned public enemy, Elphaba, whom he ultimately chooses over Glinda.

A writer for the film told Deadline that Ariana and Jonathan may have done too well on selling their romance on screen, and a particularly romantic scene had to be cut, as it proved to be ‘too passionate’.

‘There was a scene between Fiyero and Glinda that we cut in which they kissed; it was romantic and beautiful, but a little too passionate,’ the movie’s co-writer Dana Fox told Deadline.

‘Seeing that made it too hard to watch him make the choice he makes to be with Elphaba, and made it too hard to make it OK that Elphaba ran off with him,’ she said.

‘It was too real that he and Glinda were actually feeling something together,’ said Dana.

She added that Fiyero ‘really did love’ Glinda, but ‘likes her in a different way’ than the way he liked Elphaba.

‘But this scene was too romantic, so it was like, “Oh, we can’t know that because then our brains will explode when he doesn’t choose her in the end. And then we’ll hate Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero.” So, I think it was a good cut because it was too adorable that you simply couldn’t handle it.’

The latest Wicked film has been getting a bit of buzz from parents who have watched he film with their children.

This is because of a steamy scene between Elphaba and Fiyero, in which the pair kiss and go to bed. The next scene then sees the pair waking up together, with Fiyero topless, implying they have had sex.

‘Sitting in the theatre watching Wicked: For Good like damn there’s lowkey a sex scene in this PG lmaoo,’ said enchantdlovr on X.

‘Saw Wicked last night and I’m dying at how hard they tried to keep it PG during fiyero and Elphaba’s implied sex scene,’ said silverastroid.

Fans also shared their surprise about the outfit that Elphaba was in when she seduced Fiyero, with her ‘sex cardigan’ becoming an instant meme.

‘Elphaba was taking no chances when Fiyero got in that treehouse. Broke out the good lingerie and her sex cardigan,’ said karl_delo on X.

‘Calling it Elphaba’s sex cardigan is wild and I love that for everyone involved. We need it mass produced in every size cause it’s really something,’ said ifashionwarrior.

Post Wicked, Vogue has even dubbed a sexy cardigan a ‘holy grail’ item, and thus, a legend has been born.
