South Africa is famous for its love of all things sport and no ex-pat worth their salt would want to miss any of the top action when they're on vacation. From Premier League, Champions League and World Cup qualifiers in soccer to Autumn Internationals 2025 rugby union, Formula 1, The Ashes 2025/26 and Proteas cricket, and plenty of tennis, the action continues right into 2026.

Though DStv is a pay-TV service, it's among the cheapest subscription services around, and allows you to watch both live and on-demand at a later date, too. With a huge array of shows available, it's great value for money.

As well as all that sport, there are also hundreds of top TV series available to stream on demand including the gritty US drama Landman, award-winning local series Shaka iLembe and brand-new reality show Being a Xaba.

Though watching DStv is so easy back home in the Rainbow Country, it'll stop working when you leave South Africa. Here's a full (and quick) guide to how to get DStv from anywhere in the world...

How to watch DStv in Australia

To begin watching DStv, you first must create and register an account. Thankfully, this only takes a matter of seconds, then you're all signed up with the subscription of your choice and you can get watching. Happy days.

Register: Visit the DStv website, find the subscription that's right for you and create an account when prompted. Then fill in the details required, usually just an email address and a password, plus your bank details. Don't worry, DStv is a secure site, so all your details will be secure.

You'll then be asked to verify your account over email – keep an eye in your Junk folder.

And that's it, you're good to start watching DStv for free! That means you can start live streaming TV channels M-Net, Mzansi Magic, BBC Brit, Showmax and Supersport.

There are three main subscription tiers to choose from: Access, Compact, Premium. Costing from R99 ($5.66) a month, Access is the budget option; for R299 ($17.44) a month Compact gives a greater selection of entertainment and sports channels; Premium is an all-in service that comes in at R699 ($40.77).

But you can only do this with a South African IP address. Abroad right now? Here's how to unblock DStv...

How to watch DStv from anywhere

DStv is only available to watch in South Africa, which means it won't work if you try to stream when overseas on business or vacation. However, you can always download a VPN to overcome these regional restrictions and access DStv as normal when you're outside South Africa. You may be surprised how simple it is to do.

What sport will be shown live on DStv?

Where do you start? A DStv subscription, particularly at the all-in Premier tier, comes with a deluge of sports to enjoy no matter the time of year thanks to access to the SuperSport suite of channels.

It's the South African home of more soccer than you could ever watch and includes (deep breath) the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, World Cup 2026 qualifier and South African Betway Premiership.

DStv is also a great place to watch cricket. The Ashes 2025/26 will be shown on SuperSport, as will upcoming tours of the Proteas. That will continue into 2026, too.

The site also has ATP and WTA tennis, Formula 1 coverage and Moto GP.

All in all, that's a pretty exhaustive list, and to be expected from such a sports-mad country.

Landman season 2 is among the US shows you can enjoy on the platform, along with NCIS: Tony & Ziva, plus Mafia: Most Wanted and true-crime show The Serial Killer's Apprentice.

You can also enjoy more local drama offerings with award-winning telenovela Outlaws, the aforementioned Shaka iLembe and Afrikaans drams Niggies. The Unspoken War is one of countless documentaries that will keep you hooked, too.

There's also a shedload of reality TV to enjoy. The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa features the continent's iconic housewives traveling to Brazil for some South American samba fun, while social media was ablaze with Big Brother Mzansi takes. Being a Xaba is also doing numbers online as the family attempts to come together, while Yes, Chef! has all your Masterchef-style fix of reality cooking.
