Let's cut to the chase: Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses are some of the best gadgets released in the past few years. For Black Friday they got a seriously deep discount, and I'm pleased to report it has stuck around for Cyber Monday. If you’re after the cheapest possible option, the pair with clear lenses is down to $239 at Amazon (from $299), but I’d recommend you snatch up a transitional pair for $303.20 (was $379).

In the UK, the basic Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are just £239 at Currys, and you can grab a pair with transitional lenses for just £303 at Currys, saving you £76.

Why am I suggesting you opt for pricier smart specs? I'm no Meta shill, but I can tell you first-hand that always-clear or always-shaded smart glasses have a major drawback: you can only use them some of the time. You can't get away with shades on a dark day or indoors, nor clear specs on a bright and sunny day. Transitional lenses will turn shaded in bright sunlight and become clear when used indoors or in dark areas, so you can use them whenever you want.

Take it from me: while transitional lenses cost more, i's well worth it for the extra versatility. You can wear them in almost any weather condition, bar heavy rainstorms or dust storms (these smart specs are only IPX4 rated, after all). You won't regret having paid that bit extra, and with the current Cyber Monday discounts, it's not even that much more.

I love my Ray-Ban Meta glasses, and use them so much. While they have been recently replaced by a new-and-improved Gen 2 design, the originals are still a solid option – and doubly so with this Cyber Monday discount.

Why do I think they're so neat? As well as looking trendy, this wearable has plenty of technological tricks up its sleeve. They include open-ear speakers, so you can listen to your music, in-built cameras that are pretty good at capturing first-person video, and good quality mics that are well-suited to taking calls or recording audio for your video clips.

Oh, and their AI assistant. You can ask the Meta AI questions by talking to it, and you can also let the glasses capture a picture so it can use what you see to inform its answer to your query. I've used it while traveling to learn more about landmarks I know nothing about, translate signs I can't read, and quickly clue me in on whether food is vegetarian or not.

Overall, these specs are a fantastic piece of kit. Plus, even when they’re out of charge you still have some useful and stylish shades.
