By Michael GallagherShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberOle Miss may have got the raw end of the deal that led to Lane Kiffin’s departure to become new the head coach at LSU, but the school got a little revenge on the 50-year-old Kiffin on Tuesday.
According to a report from Rivals, one of Kiffin’s top recruits in LSU’s 2026 recruiting class has flipped his commitment to Ole Miss.

Johnson Jr. is a three-star recruit and the No. 16-ranked player in the state of Louisiana in the class of 2026, according to 247Sports.
He had been committed to LSU for about a month (he made his pledge to the Tigers the day after former head coach Brian Kelly was fired) after originally committing to Louisiana Tech. Rivals cites the coaching change from interim head coach Frank Wilson to Kiffin as the reason or his flip.
For Ole Miss, the move was a nice counter-punch to Kiffin and LSU, who poached four-star tight end JC Anders and three-star interior offensive lineman Ryan Miret in the two days since he got to Baton Rouge.

Not long before Johnson Jr.’s news broke, four-star WR Kenny Darby decommitted from LSU. He had been committed to the Tigers since November 2024. LSU also lost two former four-star wide receivers to the transfer portal in Kylan Billiot and Jelani Watkins.
