Side-scrolling 2D beat ‘em up Marvel: Cosmic Invasion has been praised by fans after it was released earlier this week.

Featuring a roster of 15 super heroes from the Marvel universe, Cosmic Invasion is a “frenetic action beat ‘em up” that has players fighting to save the galaxy from the deadly Annihilation Wave.

Players can choose from 15 different heroes including Captain America, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Black Panther and Iron Man before brawling through levels of deadly enemies. You can also use “tag-team” mode to switch between characters and create unique combos and powerful special attacks. “Each character’s abilities encourage creative team-ups and a more tactical approach to the action,” explained developers.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion launched earlier this week (December 1) and already has a “Very Positive” review score on Steam. “This game nails that classic arcade feeling while still giving each hero their own personality. The moment you jump into a fight, the game hits you with fast pacing, slick animations, and combos that feel good every single time. Swapping between two heroes mid battle never gets old. You can start a combo with Spider Man, finish it with She Hulk, and send enemies flying across the screen. It is chaotic in the best way,” wrote one fan.

“As a lifelong Marvel fan and someone who loves classic arcade-style games, Marvel Cosmic Invasion has been an absolute delight to dive into,” said another.

It’s also been a hit with critics. Marvel Cosmic Invasion currently has a “Generally Favourable” score of 80 per cent on review aggregate site Metacritic.

However a number of fans have complained Marvel Cosmic Invasion is too short, and the main campaign can be completed in around four hours. “I think the game would benefit tremendously with more game modes. For example, a survival/wave mode would improve replayability. Also, even if it doesn’t make sense regarding the story, I would love to play as Dr. Doom, Deadpool, Carnage and Blade as DLC characters,” wrote one fan.

“While the game is great, it took me about 4 hours to beat the game and another 4 to get all of the achievements. At the asking price of $30 USD there is shockingly little content,” explained another.

Earlier this year it was reported that Marvel’s ambitious new video game Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra has been delayed once more. “Our goal is to deliver unforgettable, premium games that honour the characters and worlds we’re fortunate to work with. To fully realise our vision for Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra, we’ve made the decision to shift our release window beyond early 2026.” No new release date has been announced.
